Citi is pleased to announce the appointment of Shahmir Khaliq as Head of Treasury and Trade Solutions (TTS), effective immediately.

TTS is the backbone of Citi’s Institutional business and is essential to the bank’s ability to effectively serve its clients. Citi’s global network delivers distinct value by giving clients the benefit of its local expertise, operational consistency and access to the unparalleled set of markets in which the bank operates.

TTS will continue to be at the core of Citi’s Institutional franchise and a major focus of its ongoing transformation work. Paco Ybarra, CEO, Institutional Clients Group, Citi, commented “It is with the idea of reinforcing our commitment to this business and accelerating our investment in it that we have selected Shahmir to lead it in the coming years.”

Shahmir has had multiple roles over nearly three decades at Citi—as a banker, a CCO, and as a senior member of the team that re-energised the banks Investor and Direct Custody and Clearing Services businesses. More recently, Shahmir has been running Operations and Technology for TTS. “His experience gives him a unique ability to understand clients’ needs and to drive investment in our infrastructure and our network to ensure that we can continue to help them sustain their operations, manage their supply and distribution chains and optimise their working capital and liquidity.” said Paco Ybarra. Shamir will help improve Citi’s core product capabilities and rethink the bank’s interaction with clients from a coverage, sales and service perspective to deliver a continuously improving client experience.

Citi would like to thank Naveed Sultan for his leadership of TTS and for helping to ensure a smooth transition. Naveed now moves on to his new role as Chairman of the ICG.
