Singapore, Hong Kong – Standard Chartered has made two new senior appointments in the Financial Markets Sales team. Terence Gan, joins the Bank this week in Singapore as Head of Financial Markets Rates Sales and reports to Carsten Stoehr, Global Head of Financial Markets Sales. In August, Zhou Cheng Gang (“CG”) joined as Head of RMB Sales. He is based in Hong Kong and reports to George Sun, Head of Financial Markets Sales for Greater China and Northeast Asia.

Terence brings with him over 18 years of financial markets sales experience focusing on fixed income and emerging market (EM) rates in Asia. He was most recently Head of Rates Sales for Asia, and Head of FICC Sales for Singapore at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Terence honed his sales experience during his various career stints at leading financial institutions in Asia such as Citigroup, HSBC and DBS.

The Rates business forms a crucial part of Standard Chartered’s financial markets product mix, and we currently have a strong presence across our footprint markets, and a broad product offering in EM and G10 rates. Terence’s sales experience, client relationships and deep market knowledge will enhance our product offering and delivery of relevant solutions to our clients.

CG’s appointment is timely as Standard Chartered continues developing our RMB capabilities on the back of increasing demands from our clients for RMB solutions. In this newly created role, CG is responsible for driving all RMB-related financial market opportunities globally, and working closely with teams across the Bank. Specifically, our advisory includes hedging solutions for RMB FX/FX options and rates, investing in RMB assets, managing cash and liquidity in RMB, alternative RMB financing solutions, and helping our clients better understand the benefits from the internationalisation of RMB.

CG brings with him a wealth of experience in China, both onshore and offshore. He joined Standard Chartered from PIMCO, where he was Head of China Business Development. Before that, he also worked for many years in China Fixed Income Sales at Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs. CG also previously held various roles, including senior portfolio manager, derivatives trader, and client advisory, when he was with ICBC in Beijing and Hong Kong.

Commenting on the appointments, Carsten Stoehr said, “We are very pleased to welcome Terence and CG to Standard Chartered’s Financial Market Sales team.  They bring deep expertise in their respective fields and will play an important role as we seek to further enhance our financial markets franchise. Terence will add significantly to our Rates business globally with a strong foundation in Asia, given his years of experience in markets that are core to Standard Chartered’s strategy. CG’s depth of knowledge in the China market adds to the growth momentum in the Bank’s leading position in enabling our clients globally to benefit from the rapid internationalisation of the RMB.”

Terence and CG’s recent appointments in Asia follow several other appointments in Sales across Asia, Europe and Americas over the recent months, including the appointment of Paul Denslow, Head of FX Sales for Americas. These appointments demonstrate Standard Chartered’s commitment to ensure that we continue to invest in the best talent and deliver optimal solutions to our footprint clients.
